ADVANCED CAR RIGGING

ADVANCED CAR RIGGING

ADVANCED CAR RIGGING

Where Basics teaches ten rigs, Advanced follows one professional hard-mount build all the way through — from finding hard mount points on the vehicle to the moment the rig flexes and the team has to pivot. Shot in real time to see the decision-making process.

Six stages. One professional build, start to finish.

01

Vehicle Hard Mount Points

Find reliable mounting points under the hood and chassis, then secure them with grip hardware.

02

Specialty Hard Mount Hardware

Use specialty clamps, threaded adaptors, and grip hardware to build beyond suction mounts.

03

Complex Camera Mounting

Position PEOVI mounts for precise adjustment and solid support at complex angles.

04

Triangulation & Adjustability

Triangulate the rig for stability while keeping camera positions easy to adjust.

05

Pivoting During a Challenge

Troubleshoot flex and shifting in real time. Reinforce the build and rethink mounting angles.

06

Workflow & Team Communication

Coordinate the crew, build in redundancy, and keep complex setups safe and moving.

03 — DECISION-MAKING

For each car rig breakdown we'll discuss:

01

The brief

The shot requirements, the vehicle, and what the setup needed to deliver.

02

The constraints

Where the camera needed to go and the practical limitations shaping the build.

03

The decision

The rig I chose, why it was the right call, and the other approaches worth considering.

04

The lessons

What worked, what changed on set, and the lessons I’d take into the next build.

WHAT YOU’LL BE ABLE TO DO

WALK UP TO ANY VEHICLE AND KNOW WHERE TO START.

WALK UP TO ANY VEHICLE AND KNOW WHERE TO START.

Assess a vehicle and camera position before touching a piece of gear

Choose an appropriate rigging approach for the shot and the budget

Understand load paths and triangulation so the rig holds

Protect the vehicle — every time, on every surface

Select the right equipment instead of over-building

Build faster and more efficiently under a real schedule

Troubleshoot problems when the first plan doesn’t work

Scale from lightweight builds to full professional setups

Understand why a rig works, not just how it was assembled

When he's not on set, he's usually building something. Whether it's software, furniture, or another project he probably doesn't have time for. When he's not doing that, you'll find him somewhere near the ocean with a tiki drink in hand, pretending he's on vacation.

Legacy Grip is the place where grips come to learn away from set.
