Project BTS
Commercial W/ Camera Rig & Matrix Head
about the project
Fun multi-day commercial for a sports brand. We were on a small stage for the better part of all days except for half a morning a few blocks away on a sports field. The stage was small and photo shared spaces with video. We shot in a black box room which consisted of black walls on 3 sides, and a larger stage which housed our living room set, our gym set, and 2 photo backdrops. We ran a Fisher 10 dolly with a Matrix head from TCC, teched by the wonderful Christian Hurley. Dolly was pushed by Adriam Proleiko. The Matrix head makes it so that many moves can be rolled across the floor without the need for track. We also pulled off a variation of the Lazy Susan rig but instead spun talent in coordination with the camera. This was a custom rig utilizing Division Rentals Modulus-X truss and ModParts. We had 45 minutes to pre-rig as much of the rig as we could in pieces and then had to move those pieces onto the elevated set and assemble in the final position. We cut a few corners - especially when it came to camera triangulation / support and counterweight. But it got the job done and we spun the rig by hand. Worked well.
